Mozart is famous for The Magic Flute, but have you ever heard of the magic hill which was one of his refuges? In fact, this 15th-century castle wasn’t always a hotel. Restored by the Rosewood Hotels and Resorts group, this new 98-room establishment is located on the shores of Lake Fuschl, at the foot of the Austrian Alps. Close to Salzburg, the place is a UNESCO World Heritage site and was the home of composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart! The castle was built in 1461 as a hunting lodge for the prince-archbishops of Salzburg. It was converted into a hotel in 1947, though nowhere near as beautiful as it is today. With 42 suites and six lakeside chalets, an Asaya spa, six bars and restaurants and a guest-only beach club, there’s nothing quite like it in a region that, thanks to global warming, is set to become even more attractive.
