Philippe Apeloig X Hermès Slim GMT : typography of dreams

From his work as a typographer, Philippe Apeloig developed a definite taste for Bauhaus with a hint of constructivism. Passionate about literature, the designer embodies the crème de la crème of French typography. Hermès is no stranger to typography. The French House’s iconic “Arceau” watch used typography as its core, so it wasn’t an option for Hermès to launch a new timepiece that wouldn’t be directly inspired by it. The House logically called on Philippe Apeloig to work on their new line, “Slim”. With pure lines and round shapes, the Slim’s index have immediately become references in the field. By presenting a brand new feature displaying a second time zone, Hermès gave Apeloig’s work a new dimension. In what seems like total chaos, the second dial goes so far as to play with its own identity while remaining completely transparent. This goes to show the essence of a timepiece that, even when deconstructed, keeps its identity intact.
