Pascale Marthine Tayou x Ornellaia: Art and Wine United to Celebrate the Strength of Blooming

In the heart of the Bolgheri DOC, where nature dictates the law and time is measured in harvests, Ornellaia renews its partnership with art. For the 17th edition of the Vendemmia d’Artista project, the prestigious Tuscan wine entrusts the interpretation of the 2022 vintage, entitled “La Determinazione”, to the visionary flair of Pascale Marthine Tayou.

A Cameroonian artist with a fluid poetics, Tayou translates the character of the wine into a symbolic journey that passes through seeds, germinations and resistance, restoring the vital force of the plant as a metaphor for courage and resilience. For the 750 ml bottles, the artist draws concentric circles, chromatic vortices that express the energy of the whole. The Double Magnums tell the visual determination of a plant that blooms in the desert, while the Imperials and the Salmanazar are dressed in patchwork sculptures made with recycled materials, like talismans that guard life and time.

“I wanted to consider determination from the perspective of the relationship between humans and nature,” explains Tayou. An affinity also shared by Lamberto Frescobaldi, president of Ornellaia: “His art demonstrates how courage and resilience bring joy. It is a message that we feel is deeply our own.”

From 12 to 24 June 2025, the lots signed by the artist will be auctioned online by Bonhams. The proceeds will support the next exhibition at the Guggenheim in New York, confirming that determination and beauty, when they meet, can generate lasting value.
