Omega x Clearspace: The Great Space Garbage Patch

Building the reputation of its iconic Speedsmaster chronograph, Omega has been a supplier for NASA since 1965. A special version of the Speed’, as we call it, was launched this year with a meteorite dial and the first dual hemisphere moonphase display. But the watch is also a partner of Clearspace, an organization commissioned by the European Space Agency whose mission is to clear the Earth’s orbit of some 40,000 pieces of space junk. Launched at 28,000km/h, every object, no matter how small, is a potential danger to anything that crosses its path. Therefore, the idea is to place a module in the path of this space junk, capable of diverting it from the Earth’s orbit. With SpaceX planning to launch no less than 40,000 spacecrafts in the next few years, it’s time to get started!
