Mubi x Gerrit Jacob, a Capsule About Berlin and its Freedom

There’s something special about the 90s, especially when told through the eyes of a finally free Berlin. It’s a time of experimentation, where rave culture and underground club nights exude new energy. It’s this evolving world that designer Gerrit Jacob wanted to celebrate, in collaboration with MUBI, by launching a capsule collection that brings to life the essence of Berlin in those years.

The collection takes inspiration from the exhibition “Dream On – Berlin, the 90s” hosted at C/O Berlin, as well as the MUBI film series “Reclaiming Spaces: Berlin, the 90s,” which explores the places and atmosphere of a city in full cultural ferment. Five iconic pieces – two bags, a denim jacket and jeans, and a t-shirt – represent the mix between the creative chaos of the underground scene and the DIY aesthetic typical of raves. The campaign directed by Bianca Batson is narrated by the lens of Marina Mónaco where each shot is a narrative that mixes black and white and bright colors. “We wanted to represent not only the clothes, but also the sense of community and the desire for freedom,” explains Jacob.

The collection will be the protagonist of an event evening on November 16 at C/O Berlin, where the MUBI Night will be held. Objective: to immerse yourself in the exhibition and the collection, experiencing first-hand the atmosphere of those years.
