Pratone, the iconic design piece created by Gufram half a century ago, seems to never go out of style. The proof lies in the latest collaboration the Italian design brand has signed with the MSCHF art collective. This time, the group, known worldwide for its provocative works, has chosen to reinterpret the legendary chaise longue, created in 1971 by designers Ceretti, Derossi, and Rosso, by literally cutting the “lawn” and leaving the armchair with its blades of grass sharply cut and bleeding. It’s almost a cry of pain, a drastic and dramatic gesture that inevitably leads to ecological and environmental reflections and, most importantly, to existential questions like: where are we heading? What are we doing to nature?
The official collaboration between MSCHF and Gufram, created for the Industry Plants exhibition, was presented to the public on September 6th at the New York City space of the contemporary art gallery Perrotin.
