The Nordic tradition of wellness and self-care is the main inspiration behind IKEA’s new collection with Finnish design brand Marimekko. This super-limited-edition collection, called Bastua, consists of products that are recognizable thanks to vibrant prints. But what does Bastua mean, exactly? It is a word used in Småland, a region in southern Sweden where IKEA was founded. It all begins there and it therefore comes as no surprise that Marimekko’s exclusive series of prints – and the entire collection – would be reminiscent of the special, relaxed atmosphere of the North. The collection consists of pieces of furniture, glass objects and textiles. But also, of bathrobes, towels, coffee tables with matching glasses and trays, and last but not least of elderflower, rhubarb and vanilla candles. In short, all products scream positivity and are designed to be enjoyed anytime and anyplace. This limited-edition collection will be available from March on, in IKEA’s stores.. but pay attention, only as far as the supplies go. Text: Germano d’Acquisto
