Back in 1987, Chanel introduced Première, a watch highly inspired by the other crafts of the Maison: from fragrances, it borrows the shape of the perfume flasks’ cap, and from fashion, the chain of its signature quilted bags, transformed here into a precious bracelet. As is often the case, icons come in different forms. We work on their proportions, finishings and expressions. This is an exercise that Chanel has already undertaken with this model, yet Arnaud Chastaing, director of the creative studio for the watch and jewellery branch, still wanted to re-edit the original version – the one from its first hour – while making it feel contemporary. To do so, the Maison summoned French-American actress Lily-Rose Depp, who presents the piece through a photoshoot staged at Mademoiselle’s unfathomably private apartment.
