Lamborghini Diablo SE30 x RM Sotheby’s: Purple Train

Similar to a high-speed train launched on a railroad track, this unstoppable car is a pure product of the 1990s car culture. With its stunning purple color, its features are worth a look. Introduced in 1993 for Lamborghini’s 30th anniversary, the Diablo SE30 is a road-legal race car, more powerful and lighter than its counterparts. It retains the legendary V-12 but features a revised fuel system, magnesium intake manifolds, and a free-flow exhaust, increasing output to 525 horsepower. Unlike the Diablo VT, the SE30 was a raw, rear-wheel-drive machine with driver-adjustable sway bars. The body panels are mostly made of carbon fiber, and the car is equipped with race-specification brakes, bringing the weight down by 136kg. The comfort features, such as air conditioning, power steering, the Alpine audio system and leather seats, were eliminated to fit carbon fiber bucket seats with four-point racing harnesses, and fixed plexiglass units with a sliding vent window. Exhausting, exhilarating and temperamental: it has all the flaws that make a car ‘fiendishly’ appealing. Sold by RM Sotheby’s, the price is available “on request” only. In other words: very, very expensive.
