Wildlife X Thom Browne 2020: “Bon Chic, No Gender”

Combining classic style with unexpected inspiration, Thom Browne has once again taken the world by surprise. Without a doubt, he is one of the designers who best understands the times, taking great totems of clothing and reinterpreting them. By transforming the men and women in the collection into large animals, the designer questioned the relevance of gender classification in fashion. While women have long been ultra-feminine in their men’s clothing, the opposite has always been difficult to achieve: preserving all of a man’s masculinity in a skirt is a perilous exercise. But for a long time, Thom Browne has been blurring the lines of men’s fashion. With his signature, shorts and 7/8 pants highlight the male form in a new way, with a marked waist and shortened sleeves. The transition to a long skirt is the logical continuation of this same idea. Whether or not you’re ready to adopt it, it’s clear that it works from an aesthetic standpoint. One of the aims of creation is to change people’s attitudes and this is a very convincing demonstration of just that.
