Kallos Turin Creates the New Cellar of Casa Cavia in Buenos Aires

Kallos Turin reveals the new winery and private tasting room at Casa Cavia in Buenos Aires. Located across from Plaza Alemania in the chic Palermo Chico neighborhood, Casa Cavia is a historic home designed in 1929 by architect Alejandro Christophersen.

In 2014, Kallos Turin was commissioned to renovate the structure, transforming it into a multifunctional place housing a café, perfumery, flower shop, courtyard garden and editorial offices. This year, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of Casa Cavia, architect Lupe Garcia decided to highlight the family’s long tradition in wine production, so on the first floor he created a cellar and a private tasting room, called El Privado.

The cellar, with its dark burgundy color, offers an intimate and private atmosphere, while El Privado is a larger and brighter space, with shelves full of books and designed for long dinners and lively discussions. All while preserving the original 1920s details and inserting modern design elements. “When you work on a building of this caliber – explains Stephania Kallos, co-founder of the studio – you get inspired by the thinking of  its original architect and you hope to bring something of what you have learned into your subsequent projects”.
