In its latest illy Art Collection, illycaffè invited Swiss artist John Armleder to transform the coffee cup into a reflective work of art. Titled “Tastes,” the collection evokes taste not only in its organoleptic sense, but as an ever-changing sensory experience. Inspired by Armleder’s famous “disco balls,” the cups become iridescent, metallic surfaces that reflect their surroundings, combining the flavor of coffee with a play of visual perceptions.
Armleder’s approach, influenced by the Fluxus movement, aims to blur the boundaries between art and everyday life. The illy cup, a common object, is elevated as a vehicle for creativity and imagination, making art accessible. The “Tastes” collection, available from the end of September 2025, confirms illy’s connection to contemporary art, transforming the coffee break into a moment of wonder and reflection.
