Just as committed as he is inventive, Alqadi Malek came up with the wild idea of creating a completely off-the-grid hotel. Situated in the Mojave Desert, the latest project of the architect is the second iteration of what he calls the “Folly” Collection, a series of unique retreats. Self-sufficient and independent from traditional water and electricity networks these architectural follies are often located in remote, isolated areas. They are largely dependent on their energy sources, which can be renewable, such as sun and wind. The property has five independent buildings, each making a suite, which seem to fade into the landscape in daylight. Breathtakingly beautiful, the property is just a few hours from Los Angeles, the ultimate destination for a contemplation and meditation scape.
