Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby x Puiforcat: The Dancing Flame

Poissy, 1931. On the banks of the Seine river, a new construction site by Le Corbusier and his cousin Pierre Jeanneret is nearing completion: it’s the Villa Savoye, which looks like a white cube floating above the ground. Designers Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby drew inspiration from it to create the Pilotis series for Puiforcat, which consists of 3 candlesticks and 3 candelabras. Together, the two Englishmen rethink these objects that adorn tables from the days before electricity to modern times, when the comforting glow of a candle is always welcome. Their candlesticks have the Bauhaus geometric aesthetic, although made of a refined material – all solid silver. A fine contribution to the craftsmanship of Puiforcat, a specialist in precious metals since 1820, who has since joined Hermès. On these rectangular metal rods, as thin as knife blades, the flame seems to be dancing.
