Dior x Otani Workshop: The Coolness Monster

Ever heard of Tanilla? This sweet little monster designed by Otani is now the totem animal of a charmingly childlike Dior collection. The Japanese artist, a master in the art of ceramics, draws inspiration from nature to create works using ancestral techniques, infusing traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary edge. His creatures, almost naïve in silhouette, with muted colours and textured surfaces, belong to the world of childhood, that of fairy tales, and are currently on show at the Galerie Perrotin. The physical properties of the clay he uses and the unpredictable effects of the different techniques employed allow Otani to experiment in new and unique ways. At the touch of his hands, imperfection becomes beauty. That’s the idea at the heart of this collection, which is as touching as it is cool.
