In 2019, De Tomaso was given a new lease of life thanks to the P72, a concept car inspired by the 1965 De Tomaso P70. Six decades later, the prototype is ready to go into production. Boasting a clean-sheet carbon fibre chassis and a unibody monocoque, formed from a single, uninterrupted piece of carbon fibre with no bonded sections, the structure centers the powertrain (a hand-assembled 5.0L V8 Supercharged producing 700bhp) at the lowest possible point, providing optimal weight distribution and a low centre of gravity. A pushrod suspension system provides a classic driving feel, enhanced by the screenless interior with analogue dials and gauges, exposed gear lever for the six-speed gearbox, hand-stitched leather and hand-finished aluminium. The curved carbon fibre body is available in a range of heritage-inspired paints or in exposed carbon. Limited to 72 productions, the P72 is quite a milestone for the brand.
