We are talking about one of fashion’s greatest legends. By appropriating Harlem’s sidewalks and turning them into his very own catwalk aged 80, Dapper Dan became one of the big founders of street style. Familiar with the hip hop scene, he made a name for himself by dressing rappers in the logos of luxury brands whose destinations he hijacked. He was forced to close down for counterfeiting in the early 90s, but today, with several awards under his belt, it’s fair to say that he’s sense of excess remains one of today’s greatest sources of inspiration. It’s for all these good reasons that the giant GAP, whose star has faded of late, has entrusted him and his team with the task of creating a preppy-street collection with a 90s flavour, and it’s devilishly effective.
