Claudio Nardi x La Ménagère: in Rome, a New Temple of Taste (and Design)

La Ménagère expands its legacy with the opening of a second space in the heart of the Eternal City, just steps away from Piazza di Spagna. Located in the historic premises of the former Gilda nightclub, this iconic venue has been meticulously restored through an intense conservation effort led by architect Claudio Nardi, with the collaboration of architect Alice Bandini Quartinieri, alongside the Soprintendenza and local institutions.

Since its founding in Florence in 1896, La Ménagère has become a landmark for food, design, and culture enthusiasts. In Rome, it breathes new life into the former home of a legendary nightlife destination, transforming the space into a refined and inviting venue.

Architect Claudio Nardi envisioned a project focused on restoring and enhancing the building’s historic elements and distinctive features. His design elevates the guest experience by creating a timeless atmosphere that seamlessly blends the charm of the past with contemporary dynamism.

Spanning 1,000 square meters with seating for 200, the Roman outpost of La Ménagère adopts a more classical aesthetic compared to its Florentine counterpart. The space showcases the sophisticated elegance of pink travertine and the softness of textile panels that wrap the hall under the expansive skylight. Adding to its allure is a magnificent 17th-century courtyard, once home to Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Guests are invited to embark on a journey through richly draped and subtly veiled spaces, where rooms are interconnected in fluid harmony. From painted decorations to dark wood finishes, every detail engages in a cohesive dialogue.

And what about the culinary experience? Staying true to its Florentine roots, the Roman kitchen adheres to the same philosophy, delivering creative and refined dishes made with the freshest, highest-quality ingredients. Signature highlights include the iconic Beef Wellington, Filet Rossini, and Spaghetti with garlic, olive oil, chili, parsley, and bottarga.

Finally, the crown jewel of the Roman experience will be the cocktail bar, serving sophisticated drinks in an atmosphere enriched by live music and artistic performances. (Photo: Stefano Scatà)
