Cecilie Bahnsen x Alpha Industries: Garments At Will

A native of Copenhagen, Cecilie Bahnsen has established herself as one of the rising stars of contemporary fashion. A finalist for the LVMH Prize in 2017, she founded her eponymous brand in 2015 after studying at the Royal College of Art in London and gaining valuable experience working for Parisian fashion houses. As for Alpha Industries, it is an American military clothing manufacturer founded in 1959 by Samuel Gelber. The brand specialises in making clothing for the US Air Force and naval aviation, including bomber jackets and flight jackets. The result is a powerful and fruitful collaboration between the two designers, a charming collection which reinterprets the iconic MA-1 and N2-B jackets through a poetic and feminine lens. The three-piece line includes a short black MA-1 and two variations of the N-2B in navy blue and green with pale pink detailing. Each model masterfully balances Alpha’s utilitarian heritage with Bahnsen’s sculptural sensibility. The collection’s main theme, ‘transformation,’ is based on the 1941 vintage gardening book Garden Bulbs in Colour. Its colourful hand-drawn illustrations inspired embroidered patches and laser-cut patterns that break down traditional boundaries to create ‘living collages.’ Sign us up for more!
