A long-time lover of Mexico, interior designer Sara Skalli couldn’t have dreamt of a better place to give free rein to her creativity than this hotel, nestled on the Pacific shores. Embracing local stone and flora, the structure of this small boutique hotel is made from chukum, a type of concrete known as ‘plant concrete’, which is both an ancestral Mexican material and a marker of sustainable architecture. Inspired by the landscape and the eddies of the ocean, Sara Skalli has designed fabulous furniture pieces ranging from chiselled mirrors to ornate wooden consoles. The fabrics, chosen in various shades of green, recall the surrounding nature, while the cream and terracotta hues evoke the local pottery. With its sublime traditional Oaxacan cuisine and haunting rhythm, this hotel is best experienced barefoot from sunrise to sunset, while admiring the local surfers execute outstanding performances.
