After conquering all the seas on Earth, the collaboration between Blancpain and Swatch has decided to go beyond, setting its sights on the galaxy. Their latest creation is called Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms ‘Ocean of Storms’ and is the sixth watch that Swatch has crafted drawing inspiration from Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, a series of Swiss diving watches born in the mid-1950s. The name of this brand-new model comes from the largest sea on our moon, spanning over 2,500 kilometers. The look is all black, while the strap has an eco-friendly soul as it is made from recycled fishing nets. The back has a transparent case revealing the internal gears of the watch, all adorned with a realistic moon graphic. Meanwhile, the sapphire glass features a digital print of an Okenia Luna. What’s that? It’s a type of sea slug with an alien-like appearance that can be found in the seas of South America. Each of the five original Blancpain x Swatch watches is indeed decorated with a different nudibranch (unique-shaped and colored mollusks): Atlantic (the blue one) is paired with the Glaucus Atlanticus; Arctic (the orange one) with the Dendronotus Frondosus; Antarctic (the white-ice one) with the Tritoniella Belli; Indian (the green one) with the Nembrotha Kubaryana; and Pacific (the black and yellow one) with the Chromodoris Kuiteri. The Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms ‘Ocean of Storms’, presented on January 11, is available for £350 in Swatch flagship stores. P.S. You can purchase only one watch per person, per store, per day. Not one more… By Germano D’Acquisto
