Belmond’s art of hospitality often merges with design. So, on the occasion of Milan Design Week 2023, the brand founded in 1976 in London decided to collaborate with Elle Decor Italia for the exhibition “The Art of Light” curated by the architect Giuliano dell’Uva at Palazzo Bovara. As you can guess from the title, the theme explored is that of light and was the main source of inspiration for the exceptional redesign of the restaurant at Palazzo Bovara. The architect found inspiration in the very specific way in which light influences the experience, creating the very special atmosphere and beautiful terraces for which Belmond Hotels are renowned. In addition, Giuliano dell’Uva explained that his source of inspiration also came from the designs of the Milanese Piero Portaluppi, who oversaw the restoration of the Palazzo after the war. “The decorative pattern of the hand-painted ceramics on the seats was also inspired by his work, while the perimeter lighting recalls the atmosphere of the gardens of Villa San Michele in Florence. The curator’s wish was to create the illusion of dining on a sunny terrace while enjoying fine dishes created by Alessandro Cozzolino, the executive chef of Villa San Michele.
