BD Barcelona x Casa Valle: A Gaudí Chair

Anyone who has visited Barcelona is familiar with Gaudí’s iconic architecture, which took the streets of the Catalan capital by storm in the 19th century. However, fewer people know that the artist also designed some furniture pieces to match his buildings. To shed light on this lesser-known side of his genius, BD Barcelona has teamed up with CASA VALLE by Giancarlo Valle and Jane Keltner de Valle to produce 50 copies of the Batlló chair, originally designed for the Casa Batlló dining room between 1904 and 1906. This special edition, reimagined in ebony stain, is currently on show alongside other pieces from BD’s Gaudí collection at the CASA VALLE gallery for NYCxDesign. Although born in the early 20th century, this striking design embodies Catalan Modernism, closely associated with the innovative Art Nouveau aesthetic of the time. According to BD Barcelona, each chair is an ‘exact reproduction of the original, handcrafted by Barcelona artisans’, a statement backed by a certificate signed by Gaudí’s cathedral to guarantee authenticity. A true masterpiece.
