Balmain x Barbie : Modern Dolls

In the aftermath of World War II, a traveling show initiated by the French ‘Chambre syndicale de la couture’ featured dolls designed by the greatest fashion houses of that time. This ‘little fashion theater’, as it was called, included many creations by Pierre Balmain. After diving into the rich archives of the House, it was only natural for current creative director Olivier Rousteing to ask Mattel to revive this past glory with his own interpretation of the famous Barbie. Inclusive and genderless, the new dolls carry a great message: that of universality. With this, Balmain says little boys shouldn’t be scared to play with dolls, just like one young Olivier Rousteing used to, growing up to become one of the greatest designers of his time.
