Born in Rome in 1964, Maria Grazia Chiuri developed a passion for fashion from a young age, influenced by her mother’s work as a seamstress. After graduating from the Istituto Europeo di Design in Rome, Chiuri began her career at Fendi in 1989, where she played a pivotal role in the development of the iconic Baguette bag. In 1999, she joined Valentino, eventually becoming co-creative director alongside Pierpaolo Piccioli, and helping to revitalize the brand with their romantic and luxurious aesthetic. In 2016, Chiuri made history by becoming the first woman to hold the position of artistic director of women’s collections at Christian Dior. During her nine-year tenure, she infused the house with a strong feminist sensibility, collaborating with artists and designers to create collections that celebrated the modern woman. In 2025, Chiuri returned to her roots, taking on the role of artistic director at Fendi. Recognized as one of the most creative talents in the fashion industry, Chiuri’s appointment at Fendi is seen as a homecoming and an opportunity to continue her exploration of female empowerment and artisanal craftsmanship within the LVMH group.
