Lang Lang, the renowned Chinese pianist, has captivated audiences worldwide with his virtuosic performances and unique interpretations of classical masterpieces. Born in 1982, in Shenyang, China, Lang Lang’s musical journey began at the tender age of three when he discovered his passion for the piano. Encouraged by his parents, both musicians, Lang Lang quickly emerged as a child prodigy, winning numerous competitions and giving his first public recital before the age of five. His exceptional talent led him to the Central Music Conservatory in Beijing, where he honed his skills under the guidance of renowned pianists. At the age of 13, Lang Lang made his mark by performing the complete Chopin Études at the Beijing Concert Hall, a feat that cemented his reputation as a virtuoso. His international acclaim grew exponentially when, at the age of 17, he replaced the renowned pianist André Watts and performed Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Christoph Eschenbach. Since then, Lang Lang has continued to captivate audiences around the world, performing with the most prestigious orchestras and conductors. His extensive discography, which includes recordings of works by composers such as Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Chopin, and Liszt, has earned him numerous accolades, including Grammy nominations and awards. Beyond his concert performances, Lang Lang has also made significant contributions to the promotion of classical music, particularly in his native China. He has established the Lang Lang International Music Foundation, which aims to inspire and educate young pianists, and has collaborated with renowned artists from various genres, including jazz legend Herbie Hancock and rock band Metallica. Today, Lang Lang is recognised as one of the most influential classical musicians of his generation, known for his dynamic and emotive performances that transcend the boundaries of traditional classical music. He was recently seen as the Prelude to the 2024 Olympic Games, an evening party at the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris.
