Isabelle Huppert

#cinema

Versatile, unapologetically fierce yet elegant and exceptionally talented, Isabelle Huppert is arguably one of the most beloved and acclaimed actresses of the 21st century. Born in the French capital in 1953, Huppert was passionate about the arts and languages from a very young age and studied Russian at the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales while attending the Conservatoire de Versailles. Simultaneously, she took drama classes at the École de la rue Blanche and then at the National Conservatory of Dramatic Art of Paris. Not only prolific and highly international but also eclectic, encompassing all genres from period dramas to comedies, Isabelle Huppert’s career makes her the most nominated actress for the César Award, and one of only four actresses who have won the Best Interpretation Award twice – for Violette Nozière in 1978 and La Pianiste in 2001 – among many other accolades. Some of the filmmakers she has mostly worked with include French directors Claude Chabrol, Jean-Luc Godard and Claire Denis, but also international directors like Michael Haneke, Joseph Losey, Hong Sang-soo and Paul Verhoeven, to name but a few.
