Yohji Yamamoto’s FW25 Collection, A Winter Masterpiece
Sometimes, Fashion Week can feel a bit too overdone, a victim of an excessive amount of rhetoric that tends to overshadow the garments themselves. Last night, however, Yohji Yamamoto took this feverish mania down a notch with a sober yet masterfully executed Fashion Show. Aged 81, the Japanese fashion designer gathered an unconventional cast of models to walk down a catwalk set in his spectacular premises in the 3rd arrondissement of Paris. Among them, we spotted renowned artists and designers such as dancer Hugo Marchand, painters Luc Tuymans and Georges Rouy, and Italian singer Mahmood. Determined and confident, they took to the catwalk dressed in quilted jumpsuits, voluminous trousers and reversible jackets, playing on a subtle play of contrasts. The oversized shapes and unexpected details, such as metal chains and enigmatic phrases, stressed Yohji Yamamoto’s rejection of conventional dress codes to embrace imperfection and the beauty of the unexpected. As for the colour palette, while black was naturally the star of the show, lighter hues slowly emerged, heralding the arrival of white, which, when worn with more futuristic outfits, seemed to project us into the fashion of tomorrow.
Guests in attendance included Kim Chapiron, Mahmood, Paul Hamy, Oxmo Puccino, Robert Montgoméry, Sang Héon Lee, Luc Tuymans, Guram Gvasalia and many other personalities from the fashion and cultural scenes.
