Willy Chavarria Rewrites the Codes of Masculinity with “Huron”
It wasn’t until 2015 that Willy Chavarria launched his label, a far cry from traditional masculine conventions, where he redefines masculinity through unisex, inclusive clothing that accommodates all bodies. He doesn’t just design clothes. He tells stories, incorporating strong social and political messages into his collections, including the exploitation of workers, while celebrating Mexican and queer culture. His signature style? A wardrobe blending American tailoring and streetwear influences, capable of appealing and bringing people together. At this Parisian show called Huron, in tribute to the small town in Mexico where he was born, he presented us with a wardrobe featuring gangsters’ street fashion and the codes that have inspired the rest of the world. A collaboration with Adidas, very oversize t-shirts meet Cadillac green suits and 50’s-inspired women’s suits. Willy Chavarria questions and criticizes, but never loses sight of his goals. At this colourful fashion show, but also at the bar where the ultra-premium tequila Don Julio was offering tasty cocktails (to be consumed in moderation), we met Jules Koundé, Camille Aumont Carnel, J Hus, 2 Chainz, Kenia Os, Adriel Favela and Mia Khalifa.
