Wanbing Huang Blends Tradition and Avant-Garde with “Shēng Dòng”

Paris

Although long overlooked by ‘high art’, the crafts are asserting themselves as an art form in their own right, one not only steeped in tradition but also endowed with great potential to produce cutting-edge art, which has earned a special place during Paris Art Week. A case in point is Wanbing Huang’s exhibition ‘Shēng Dòng’, on show at Galerie LooLooLook from October 24th to November 11th.

Standing for “Living and Dynamic”, the title of the exhibition evokes the multiple layers underlying the exploration of the young Chinese artist, a finalist for the LOEWE FOUNDATION 2023 Crafts Prize. By blending ancestral know-how with cutting-edge technology, her pieces weave a bridge between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary innovation, between the Taoist philosophy at the heart of this age-old technique and the artist’s own philosophy, driven by a commitment to the environmental issues of our time. Co-organised by Galerie LooLooLook and art agency Coolhuntparis, and co-curated by Caroline Arhuero and Sylvia Sun, ‘Shēng Dòng’ brings together humans and nature, while reinforcing the cultural ties between France and China.
