Viv Li Receives the Fourth Lights On Women’s Worth Award for Her Film “Across the Waters”
L’Oréal Paris has announced the winner of the fourth edition of the Lights On Women’s Worth Award, chosen from the official selection of short films at the Cannes Film Festival and La Cinef’s short films selection. Viv Li won this distinction for her 15-minute film, “Across the Waters,” selected from 10 short films. The film tells the story of a quirky teenage girl living in a remote mining town in China without any radio signals, who becomes interested in a passing truck driver and his Walkman, discovering music she had never heard before.
The announcement was made by Elle Fanning, actress and L’Oréal Paris ambassador since 2017, during a special prize ceremony at the Cinéma de Demain dinner held on May 24th, 2024, at the Cannes Film Festival. In recognition of her achievement, Viv Li will receive financial support and dedicated mentoring from L’Oréal Paris. Elle Fanning, a talented actress, short-film director, producer, and the youngest-ever juror at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019, was, for the first time this year, the Lights On Women’s Worth juror.
At the gala dinner, we bumped into Iris Knobloch, Helen Mirren, and Andie MacDowell, among others.
