Venice Film Festival, the Myth of Maria Callas Breaks Through
Legends have landed in Venice for the Film Festival. Thanks to Pablo Larraín’s biopic, the myth of Maria Callas takes centre stage at the Lido this year. “Maria” is on competition for the Golden Lion and features the greatest opera singer of all time, played by the star Angelina Jolie, who reportedly delivered a masterful performance in the role of the ‘divine’ Callas.
The red carpet for the screening in the Sala Grande was divine as well. During the evening, all the cast members, led by Don Pablo (who has a passion for female personalities, having already directed two other biographical films about Jackie Kennedy and Diana Spencer), paraded amidst hundreds and hundreds of camera flashes from photographers (including ours at Say Who).
The most sought-after of them all? Naturally, Angelina, sublime and unparalleled as always. Alongside her were many stars of Italian cinema: Pierfrancesco Favino, who plays the butler Ferruccio in the film, Alba Rohrwacher, who portrays Bruna, the chambermaid of the Greek-born singer, and Valeria Golino, to whom Larraín entrusted the role of Maria’s sister Iakinthi. Along with them, equally dazzling, were a wild Eva Herzigova, director Sergio Rubini, the seductive Miriam Leone, and the equally seductive Alessandro Preziosi.
