The Winners of the 50th César Awards

This year, the César Awards celebrate their 50th edition! Chaired by Jean Gabin, the very first ceremony was held on April 3rd, 1976, and honoured Robert Enrico with the Best Film Award for “Le Vieux Fusil”. Fast forwarding to this Friday, February 28th, the 50th Award Ceremony was held at the Olympia, an emblematic concert venue in the 9th arrondissement in Paris, and was presided over by Catherine Deneuve.

The evening also saw American actress Julia Roberts receive the honorary César Award, an accolade that pays tribute to a career marked by her performances in iconic films like Pretty Woman, Erin Brockovich and Ocean’s Eleven. Franco-Greek filmmaker Costa-Gavras, renowned for his committed filmography – including masterpieces such as Z, Missing and Betrayed – was also honoured with the statuette designed by the French artist.

As for the official awards, the evening was marked by close competition between the 3 favourite films: L’Amour ouf, The Count of Monte Cristo and Emilia Perez.

The big winner of the evening was Jacques Audiard, who scooped 7 awards, including Best Film and Best Director for Emilia Pérez. As for the acting, Hafsia Herzi and Karim Leklou were the winners of the Césars for Best Actress and Best Actor, for their performances in Borgo and Le Roman de Jim respectively. Director Boris Lojkine also enjoyed great success, with four awards for L’Histoire de Souleymane, as did the duo Alexandre de La Patellière and Matthieu Delaporte, whose film Le Comte de Monte-Cristo was awarded the Césars for Best Set Design and Best Costume Design.

On the red carpet and backstage at the ceremony we met Tahar Rahim, Souheila Yacoub, Raphaël Quenard, Cécile de France, Nina Meurisse, Laurent Lafitte, Cédric Klapisch, Zita Hanrot, Jean-Pascal Zadi, Karin Viard, and many more!
