The Legacy of Andrée Putman, a Design Icon
To mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Andrée Putman, a leading figure in design and interior architecture, Aurélie Laure and Olivia Putman are celebrating one of the most visionary designers of the 20th century with an immersive three-day exhibition in the Maréchaux hall of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.
This celebration symbolically heralds a new chapter for the eponymous studio and the launch of iconic reissues in a sensitive scenography by Thierry Dreyfus, revealing the full elegance of her work. Spread over three levels, the exhibition encourages visitors to immerse themselves in the timeless aesthetics of the Putman style, combining modernist rigor with everyday poetry. Andrée’s voice, a central element of the exhibition, structures the spaces, where photographs, archival pieces, video projections, and reissues of iconic furniture intermingle, creating a dialogue between memory and modernity. From luxury hotels to international projects, Andrée Putman’s emblematic collaborations are evoked as chapters in a complete body of work, where design becomes a way of life.
The exhibition is presented as a sensory and narrative experience, where each space tells a facet of her story with simplicity, precision, and freedom. Through this staging, Thierry Dreyfus does not merely illuminate the objects, he reveals their soul. This event thus provides a deeply contemporary perspective on a designer who came up with the concept of discreet luxury: that of clever shapes, the right materials, and the quiet beauty of spaces.
At the opening, we met Olivia Putman, Aurélie Laure, Noé Leyronas Putman, José Lévy, Charles Zana, Jean-Paul Veison Marcelli…
