Giorgio Armani’s Grand Finale

Pinacoteca di Brera, Milan

Giorgio Armani has always claimed the honour (and the weighty responsibility) of closing Milan Fashion Week. On Sunday evening, the show at the Pinacoteca di Brera proved why. This wasn’t just a finale; it was the closing of a chapter, the end of an era. With the King of fashion stepping aside, neither Italian fashion nor the Milanese fashion week will ever be quite the same. In one of the city’s most emblematic spaces, in the very neighbourhood where Armani has lived and worked for decades, the final collection was unveiled, a true aesthetic testament. The event was a fitting celebration of a figure who has been an absolute touchstone for fashion, complete with a requested dress code. The event was naturally teeming with impeccably stylish guests, who were met upon arrival by swarms of cameras, journalists, and photographers. Richard Gere and Lauren Hutton graced the room, their legendary Armani-clad performances in American Gigolo having defined a generation. The long guest list, more akin to a Hollywood red carpet than a runway parterre, included high-profile Italian and international names: Cate Blanchett, Jesse Williams, Spike Lee, and Margherita Buy. Journalist Lilly Gruber and composer Ludovico Einaudi, who provided a live soundtrack for the show, were also present, as well as Anna Wintour, who had presented the Legacy Award from Camera Moda to the Armani family during the Sustainable Fashion Awards at Teatro alla Scala.
