The Enchanting Opening of Château Louise de La Vallière

This incomparable site, nestled in the heart of the Vallée des Rois, is the fruit of a love story told over time: in the beginning that of the Sun King for his mistress Louise de La Vallière, and today that of Mira Grebenstein, a passionate amateur of French history who fell in love with the superb château, so representative of one of France’s most classic regions, Touraine.

Given a new life by interior designer Jacques Garcia, this history-rich site offers a moment out of time in a world which arguably doesn’t take enough time to celebrate beauty. A rare backdrop for experience-led getaways, the château, newly part of the Relais & Châteaux portfolio, has kept its noble façade but has been transformed into a timeless and luxurious boutique hotel. Mira Grebenstein and Jacques Garcia have worked side by side to turn the property into a homage to those mistresses, those powerful women who inspired kings and emperors…Every object and every room was therefore painstakingly designed as an ode to those loves who, despite being in the shadows, were at the centre of courtly drama.

The opening of this historical landmark took place in the hushed surrounds of the château in the presence of high-profile guests. Daniel Labaronne, deputy of Indre-et-Loire, was amongst those who came to celebrate this momentous project, supported by the region’s cultural heritage fund.
