The Deauville American Film Festival Kicks Off with Barrière

Deauville

A town famous for its boardwalk along the beach and its chic atmosphere, Deauville has been hosting the American Film Festival every year since 1975, with the Barrière Group as its founding partner. From September 5th to 14th, 2025, this 51st edition will celebrate the diversity of transatlantic cinema, from blockbusters to independent films. This annual event on the Normandy coast gives audiences the opportunity to take the pulse of the industry and discover new talent at a time of increasingly fierce competition between streaming platforms.

This promising edition kicked off with Yorgos Lanthimos’ film ‘Bugonia’ and the Deauville Talent Award bestowed upon Pamela Anderson, followed by a screening of ‘Libre échange’, a few days prior to its official release on September 10th. Presenting her directorial debut ‘The Chronology of Water’ in Competition (alongside Scarlett Johansson and Eleanor the Great), Kristen Stewart will be sharing her favourite French films during a Carte Blanche event on Saturday 13th, the closing day. Other awards expected include: Joel Edgerton will receive a Deauville Talent Award, Zoey Deutch (‘Nouvelle Vague’) will take the New Hollywood Award, and the legendary Kim Novak (‘Vertigo’) will earn an Icon Award.

The grand official opening dinner, organised by the Barrière Group at the Casino de Deauville, kicked off the festival. This exceptional moment brought together the members of the jury – Golshifteh Farahani, Benjamin Millepied, Vincent Macaigne, Emilie Tronche, Thomas Cailley, Katell Quillévéré, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Eye Haïdara – alongside numerous guests such as Nadia Melliti, Bilal Hassani, Zita d’Hauteville, Mara Lafontan and many others.
