The 1-54 fair inaugurates its third edition in Marrakech
From February 20th-23rd, the third edition of the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair was held at La Mamounia (Marrakech). This year, twenty galleries were selected, representing ten different countries: Belgium, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa and the United Kingdom. With more than sixty-five artists represented, 1-54 and its founder Touria El Glaoui continue to expand the frontiers of contemporary art and highlight contemporary African creation. New this year is the creation of the 1-54 Forum, a program of conferences and events designed as a platform to question contemporary art practices today. Opened last year in the heart of the Medina, the DaDa exhibition space and laboratory for artistic experimentation launched “Hamdoulah ça va!”, a group exhibition bringing together artists Mohamed Bourouissa, Gaëlle Choisne, Neïla Czermak Ichti, Yatane Mcirdi and Sara Sadik. The week continued at the fair’s many partner institutions from the Yves Saint Laurent Museum to the Comptoir des Mines, plus the MACAAL, Al Madeen Museum of Contemporary African Art.
