Takashi Murakami and Virgil Abloh get “in tune with the world” at Fondation Louis Vuitton

If there is one place gathering the biggest artists like Takashi Murakami and Maurizio Cattelan, it is Fondation Louis Vuitton. The institution chaired by Bernard Arnault and under the artistic direction of Suzanne Pagé inaugurated yesterday evening its new exhibition entitled “Au diapason du monde”. More than an exhibition, it is a real journey for the visitor. Among the very first personalities to experience it last night were Xavier Veilhan, Kamel Mennour or Virgil Abloh, whose first event it was as a brand new addition to the LVMH family. Already a few hours before the official inauguration, Fondation Louis Vuitton was broadcasting some rare moments stolen while setting up the exhibition on @fondationlv : Maurizio Cattelan’s “La Ballade de Trotski” being mounted, the arrival of a work by Yves Klein, or a first glance at François Morellet’s neon lights. Another headliner and not the least, Murakami gives the first of the two courses offered by “Au diapason du monde”. While the reputation of the Japanese artist, who found in Virgil Abloh the perfect exhibition companion, is no longer to be made, there were still discoveries in store: the monumental “The Octopus eats its own leg” is definitely one of them. The second part of the exhibition, “L’homme dans l’univers vivant”, brings together an impressive selection of French and international artists (Pierre Huyghe, Matthew Barney, Christian Boltanski, Anicka Yi, Philippe Parreno, to name but a few). The exhibition also gives a preview of Open Space, the Fondation’s new program dedicated to young artists, which honoured Jean-Marie Appriou. The French artists presented his sculptural work “Lips and Ears” as part of the exhibition.
