The Supima Design Lab presents the future of fashion
Supima, the organization promoting high quality American cotton, has been supporting young designers for over ten years. First with the Supima Design Competition, which rewards young talents graduating from the best American schools every year. Then, for the last four years, through the Supima Design Lab, a space for experimentation centered on its exceptional cotton fiber, with the aim of promoting innovation and encouraging a more environmentally friendly approach to design. The fourth edition of the Design Lab, traditionally presented at Paris Fashion Week, just took place a few days after the 36th Hyères Festival. Several of the Festival’s shortlisted designers had taken up the challenge of creating complete looks using the Supima cotton. Among them were the winner of the Grand Prix du Jury Première Vision Ifeanyi Okwuadi, Venla Elonsalo, Sofia Ilmonen, Mengche Chiang or Rukpong Raimaturapong, who won the Prix le19M des Métiers d’Art de Chanel. In addition to the talents revealed at the Villa Noailles, Supima presented the work of the winner of its own competition: Yuki Xu, from the Rhode Island School of Design. Again this year, the exhibition also featured some of the most promising talents of their generation, presented as “leading designers”: Charles de Vilmorin, Pierre Kaczmarek, Mira Mikati or Tom van der Borght, who also came into the spotlight at last year’s Hyères Festival…
