Highest 2 Lowest: Spike Lee Presents a Modern Reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s Thriller
For his fifth collaboration with Denzel Washington, Spike Lee presents “Highest 2 Lowest”, a reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 crime thriller “High and Low”. This time, the story takes place on the streets of a modern, bustling New York. Alongside Ice Spice, ASAP Rocky, Jeffrey Wright and Ilfenesh Hadera, Denzel Washington stars as the main character, a renowned music producer who is asked to pay an appalling ransom. Spike Lee’s dark, cynical but audacious work introduces an impossible moral dilemma within an unforgiving world. During the screening, Denzel Washington was awarded an honorary Palme d’Or for his entire body of work. Alongside the cast on the red carpet, we met Rihanna, Isabelle Huppert, Jason Momoa and many others.
