Sotheby’s Presents an Exceptional Collection of Objects from Napoleon
In many ways, this is an unusual sale. On June 25th, Sotheby’s Paris will be auctioning a collection of 113 Napoleonic items, with a total estimated value of €7 million. Staged by designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, the pre-sale exhibition opened its doors to the public on Thursday 19th. The striped floor symbolises the confrontation between the emperor’s conquests and the elements that lay in his path, like the thick fog that shrouded the battlefield of Austerlitz. Reflecting the colour scheme of his life, the stripes also echo the Roman-inspired architectural columns that inspired his style. With hints of gold that evoke his coronation, the scenography acts as a contemporary immersion in the life of the emperor. The exhibition is also an excellent opportunity to learn more about one of the most influential figures in French history. At the opening, we met Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Pierre Mothes, Pierre-Jean Chalençon, Louis-Xavier Joseph, Pierre Lungheretti, Naomi Greene, Jean-Paul Veison Marcelli, and many others.
