Sergi Lopez Makes a Comeback in “Sirāt” and Diego Céspedes Presents “La misteriosa mirada del flamenco”
Six years after the haunting “Viendra le feu” (2019), which won the Prix du Jury Un Certain Regard, Oliver Laxe presents “Sirāt” in the official Competition. As always with the Franco-Spanish filmmaker, this spiritual road movie is all about wandering, frontiers and inner journeys. The title is inspired by the Sirāt bridge, which, in Islamic tradition, separates hell from paradise and determines where the soul will go. The film tells the story of Luis (Sergi López), a father who, alongside his son, embarks on a journey to find Marina, his eldest daughter, who disappeared during a rave party in Morocco.
Diego Céspedes, who won the Cinéfondation prize in 2018 with “El verano del león eléctrico”, sets the plot of his new film “La misteriosa mirada del flamenco” (The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo) in the north of his native Chile. Presented at Un Certain Regard, this psychological drama revolving around AIDS is set in the 1980s.
At the photocall for these high-profile films, we met Sergi López, Matías Catelán, Paula Dinamarca, Tamara Cortes and Oliver Laxe.
