Perrotin launches fall exhibits
As part of the cool art crowd, there was only one place you had to be last Saturday as Galerie Perrotin launched its fall exhibits. The Rue de Turenne headquarters hosted the opening of up-and-coming artists Elizabeth Glaessner and Danielle Orchard’s first solo shows, as well as Finger Bang, an exclusive group show curated by GaHee Park and Genesis Belanger. All three exhibitions were designed to offer pictorial reflections on body representations.
With Page Turner, American artist Danielle Orchard presents a selection of oil paintings and drawings depicting women in odd daily life scenes. The artist summons the history of painting, from Matisse to Picasso, in order to reflect on contemporary topics. As a perfect echo, New York based painter Elizabeth Glaessner presented fifteen paintings for her exhibition titled Dead Leg. The artist offers a surreal interpretation of the female body by staging subjects in post-apocalyptic situations, a rather particular technique reminiscent of the work of Edvard Munch or other great painters of the genre.
Last but not least, Finger Bang, curated by Genesis Belanger and Gahee Park is a collective art show that surveys the work of 22 artists depicting fingers and hands to various ends and effects. The artists were invited to give free interpretations of hands’ psychological, sexual, and political meanings.
Designer Pierre Augustin Rose, artists Mathilde Denize, Laurent Grasso, Iván Argote, Vivian Greven and Young-Jun Tak and sommelier Luca Pronzato attended the event.
