Roger Vivier Inaugurates its New Parisian Headquarters
Rogier Vivier’s new Paris headquarters is a magnificent 18th-century hôtel particulier, the kind that has been preserved only in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, and set to become the most important location of this fascinating brand. Born in 1907, Roger Vivier thought of shoes as sculptures, and was therefore called “the Fabergé of footwear.” In 1924, he began studying sculpture at the Beaux Arts in Paris, which he left two years later to turn to shoemaking and begin his apprenticeship. Fascinated by theatre and music hall, Roger Vivier designed stage sets, where he met Joséphine Baker and Mistinguett, for whom he created bespoke shoes. Now owned by the Tod’s Group, the famous shoe brand inaugurated this new address last night with great fanfare, a place steeped in heritage.
Guests included Sarah Paulson, Yeji Hwang, Virginie Efira, Catherine Deneuve, Naomi Campbell, and Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu.
