Rick Owens turns the Centre Pompidou into a giant nightclub for YOU x ART
The fashion and art worlds collided as Rick Owens transformed the Pompidou museum into a giant nightclub on Thursday night. The fashion designer whose raw aesthetic and rebellious spirit always shock and amaze was given carte blanche for a full takeover of Paris’ most iconic modern Art museum and he didn’t disappoint. The colossal event brought a massive crowd to the contemporary art museum for what turned into a wild night of revelry and celebration of the freedom of creative expression. The designer brought a mix of works of art both static and living into the space for a blend of dance, music and seduction. His wife and creative partner Michèle Lamy joined rapper Tommy Cash, self-described “drag terrorist” Christeene , performance artist Kembra Pfahler and DJs LSDXOXO, Pandora’s Jukebox, Dustin Muchuvitz and MikeQ for live performances on the artist’s own monolithic beds. It was a crossover cultural experience with the Pompidou’s permanent collections providing the perfect backdrop for this massive celebration of modern Art. Guests also enjoyed after-hours access to the “Bacon: Books and Painting” exhibition as well as enjoying a drink on the terrace of Le Georges restaurant for a panoramic view of Paris. Owens is a rebel WITH a cause – all proceeds from the evening will benefit the Friends of the Centre Pompidou to raise funds for new works of art to be purchased by the museum.
