Sitting front row at Rabih Kayrouz haute couture Spring/Summer 2019
At the beginning of January, Rabih Kayrouz announced on Instagram his official entry into the closed circle of haute couture—a prestigious label awarded to only a handful of designers in Paris. The Lebanese couturier, who studied at Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture before making his debut at Dior and Chanel, had until now been a “guest member” (from 2009-2012, then in 2016) on the Haute Couture Week official calendar. Now a permanent member alongside historic houses, Rabih Kayrouz chose to present this symbolic collection in a greenhouse at Parc André-Citroën. In the midst of orange trees preserved in greenhouse during winter, the designer unveiled silhouettes combining Eastern inspirations and Western aesthetics. His friend, dancer and choreographer Blanca Li, opened the show followed by a casting of models from all horizons and generations. Sitting front row: Mlle Agnes, Sarah Andelman, Lorena Vergani, Sophie Fontanel and journalist Léa Salamé. The colors evoked Rabih Kayrouz’s native Lebanon and kept the guests warm under the Parisian gray, which had given way to a few rays of sunshine that morning…
