Podere Sapaio Presents “Sentieri #11” at Palazzo Strozzi: Theater Meets Video Art

Palazzo Strozzi once again becomes the perfect stage for the creative projects of Massimo Piccin, owner of Podere Sapaio, one of Bolgheri’s most prestigious wineries.

This time, the Venetian engineer, a lover of wine and Tuscany, chose to celebrate the 20th harvest of his winery with a special project. As part of the event Atlantide, he presented “Sentieri #11”, a site-specific theatrical work blending video art and performance. After collaborating with writer and poet Laura Pugno and launching the editorial project “Affondi. Emersioni in profondità” in 2003, this year, Piccin delved into the realm of performance art.

The work “Sentieri #11” comes to life at Paradiso dei Conigli, a tiny vineyard on the Island of Giglio, which the entrepreneur from Vittorio Veneto rescued from neglect. Here, nestled between land and sea, he employs completely manual and natural practices to cultivate a limited amount of ansonica—a native Italian white grape also known as Inzolia.

The Palazzo Strozzi event offered a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in this extraordinary vision. The gathering welcomed a select group of guests, among whom we photographed Arturo Galansino, Debi Mazar, Carlo Ferrini, Rocco De Santis, Giuseppe Carrus, and Ariel Hagen.

Attendees enjoyed the performance while savoring Podere Sapaio’s renowned Bolgheri reds and the rare ansonica Le Secche. These wines were paired with exclusive dishes crafted by Michelin-starred chef Vito Mollica, head of Atto restaurant at Palazzo Portinari.

It was not merely an evening of art, wine, and fine dining. It was something more. Through his eclectic and visionary approach, Piccin offered guests a harmonious and immersive perspective on the relationship between humanity and nature, built on connection and mutual respect—elements that transcend a simple toast.
