Philéo Landowski Revisits an Iconic adidas Pair Alongside Tadashi Kawamata
At the Dover Street Market concept store, Tadashi Kawamata’s impressive avalanche of wood washed over us, echoing the astounding success of Philéo and the young creator of the brand.
At the crossroads of art, design and fashion, this is a formidable collaboration between Galerie Mennour, adidas, Philéo Landowski and Tadashi Kawamata. The latter is a famous Japanese visual artist, known for his stunning installations made from wood and recycled materials. Alongside him in the courtyard is shoe designer Philéo Landowski, whose bold creations are all the rage at fashion shows and beyond. What these two worlds have in common is a love of the architectural and structural dimension, which is reflected in both their creations. This wooden waterfall, winding around huge columns, is just like Philéo shoes: organic, structural and voluminous.
Here, Philéo restyled the adidas SUPERSTAR 82, giving them the worn, damaged, almost recycled look that suits Tadashi Kawamata’s aesthetic. It’s a raw-looking collaboration, yet one in which we still find Philéo’s characteristic refinement, which has amazed Alexandre de Betak, Emeric Tchatchoua, Katuchat and many others.
