Paris Photo Makes its Comeback at the Grand Palais

Gathering the Parisian and international cultural scene under its magnificent glass roof, the Grand Palais hosts Paris Photo this month. After three years, the fair devoted to photography returns to the venue it has called home since 2011, immersing us in the heart of the medium. Already eagerly awaited for its big comeback, this 27th edition also has a surrealist feel, since Paris Photo has invited Jim Jarmusch to design an exclusive itinerary to celebrate the centenary of the artistic movement. As guest of honour, and a great connoisseur of a movement that has deeply informed his own artistic vision, the American filmmaker invites us to discover the fundamental principles of surrealism through a journey blending music, photography and cinema.

This year’s fair also sees the birth of a new sector: Voices. The programme features the proposals by curators Azu Nwagbogu, Sonia Voss and Elena Navarro, who have been invited to re-examine an artistic movement or practice while tackling contemporary issues. As for the Emergence sector, Paris Photo’s artistic director Anna Planas is the curator in charge of this section devoted to highlighting new voices, which this year features 23 solo shows endorsed by young galleries. Among the 240 exhibitors at the show, which runs from November 7th to 11th, there is a special place for Lithuanian photography, as part of the Lithuanian Season in France 2024.

During the opening evening, held on November 6th at the Grand Palais, we crossed paths with Anna Planas, Jenke-Ahmed Tailly, Michele Lamy, ORLAN, Paul-Emmanuel Reiffers, Souleymane Bachir Diaw…
